Nadine Bradshaw

Whether I am painting people, plants, or animals, I consider all of my work to be a form of portraiture. Through the use of oil paint, I love to capture my subjects with brushstrokes of colour that attempt to layer their essence upon the canvas. With my paintings I showcase a character at a particular moment in time, preserving them in a perpetual bloom before they wilt, grey, or lose their baby teeth.

“When I paint there is this moment, between one brush stroke and the next where what I am painting comes to life.”

Biography

Growing up in the Canadian prairies, colours within the landscape was often monochrome and muted. As Nadine has moved through her life, from studying art at The University of British Columbia to setting up a professional practice in The Netherlands, she has continued to experiment and explore the boundaries color, not just in the plants that she grows but also what she finds reflecting off of the faces of people she meets. She has been living and painting professionally in The Hague since 2013.
