While staying with friends in Tuscany one summer I fell in love with the scent of the place. Being Canadian, I am used to nature smelling like pine needles and freshly cut grass, but tuscany had a calming scent, both sweet and refreshing. My Italian friend told me what I was smelling were the eucalyptus trees that thrived along the beaches in the warm climate. Eucalyptus trees look so normal, so inconspicuous, yet rubbing a Eucalyptus leaf between your fingers releases a powerful scent, renowned for its healing and calming benefits. This painting was inspired by the plants I came across during that holiday.
